| Yeah, its been awhile. I know. Don't worry! Things are fine, just incredibly busy/crazy, and coming from ME you KNOW its busy/crazy.
Time for a bullet blog!
- Zack's almost done with football. He's had practices and/or games 4 nights a week for the past month and a half. His last football game is tonight. Same night as our town's trick or treat festivities. We're skipping the ball game. Do you blame us?
- Liam's developed a deep love for drawing and coloring and writing every letter in the English language. He still picks his nose and eats boogers but he's getting there.
- I've gotten the floors done in the kitchen and am almost done with the bar. Had to start making Holly's car payment for her so there goes the kitchen re-do money! We're still working on it, just in little bits and pieces.
- I've fallen deeply in love with all 16 of my students. They've got the cutest little personalities and I can't believe I actually get paid (very little, trust me) for teaching them.
- I'm chairman of Liam's class Halloween party tomorrow. Why do I try to out-do every other mother on the face of the Earth? No, seriously. I want you to answer that one. But not until after the party tomorrow! Because the decorations and cookies and goodie bags are to D-I-E for!!!
- Zack's lowest grade for the first 9 weeks was a 94. He got it from his Mom.
- Tim's back in school this quarter. Two nights a week. Heating and a/c program. He was hoping to retire at 55 then start his own HVAC biz to piddle around with. The biz part still looks good, the 55 thing, not so much. Our retirement account has been completely reamed the last few months.
- Physically I've been doing ok. Actually, pretty good considering my schedule here lately. I'm hoping to go totally homeopathic over the next few months. I have an appointment with a doctor who specializes in that. Wish me luck.
Ok, time to hit the road again to get Zack from school. Then I have to get them in their costumes for trick or treating tonight. We're doing it tonight because tomorrow night's the last home game for our beloved Blue Devils. Liam decided last night that he didn't want to be an Army soldier after all, he wanted to be a Blue Devil. I'm such a pushover that I totally caved in. His blue football helmet still needs a big white T painted on the sides so I'll do that as soon as we get home. Then, after trick or treating and/or barfing, I've got to make more ghost cookies for Liam's class party. I'm making a batch for my class too. I made a huge batch for Zack's class last night and everyone had to taste-test one or two or twelve. They're so cute and so good!
Here's a pic of the boys with the Blue Devil mascot at our homecoming game - which we won, by the way! Ok, I won't wait another 2 months for the next update, I promise.
Love to all, Princess Where's My Keys

| I had a talk with Zack yesterday. Not just any talk. THE talk.
You know, "the" talk. The one about the birds and the bees. When I said, "the birds and the bees" he said, "Huh?"
I knew I was in trouble.
We were in the car headed back home from running some errands in town. I knew that his school has a little special class planned for 5th graders where they separate the boys from the girls for that one session and talk to them about things that will start happening to their bodies. You know, "that" kind of class.
I didn't want "that" kind of information to come from someone else. I figured it was my duty as a parent to prepare him for whatever is about to happen.
So on the way home I started planning and scripting in my mind what I would say once I got up the nerve to sit him down. I hadn't planned on actually talking to him about it right that minute but I started getting so nervous and anxious that I realized I was going to be a basket case by the time I actually started talking. See how stupid that run-on sentence sounded? I'm getting nervous and anxious again just writing about it!
I didn't want him to ever feel uncomfortable talking to me about sex or his body so I took a deep breath and said, "I want to talk to you about something."
Then I just started talking. I explained that it might make him feel embarrassed a little bit but that was ok because I was a little bit embarrassed talking about it but he was old enough to handle it. And I talked. And he listened. And I talked some more. And he listened more. Then he started asking questions. (Dear Lord! Not the questions!!!) But I answered them.
Thank God I was still driving so I didn't have to actually look him in the face. I even kept my sunglasses on so I could still pull off the "Mom's so cool she can talk about anything" front. I hope. Maybe.
I explained to him that God gave us sex as a gift for married people and God wants him to wait and we want him to wait (please, please wait!) and all about pregnancy and diseases and girlfriends and birth control and cooties and please, please wait!!!!
Yes, I want my son to wait until he's married to have sex but I'm also a realist that that probably won't happen. I'd really love for it to happen but it probably won't. And on the chance that it doesn't, I want him to at least know how to protect himself and his girlfriend (please, please, at least let it be a girlfried and not "Miss Saturday Night") from disease and/or an unwanted pregnancy.
So, yesterday, not only did I fix our air conditioner, stain the kitchen floor AND attend a 3-hour staff meeting from 6-9pm but I also had THE talk with my 10-year old young man. And I lived to see the sun rise this morning!
I'm still mopping the kitchen floor to remove any leftover stain. Done it twice so far and I think I'll do it at least 2 more times just to be sure. Once I put the clear sealer on, I can put the baseboards back on, paint them and move the stove and fridge back in place.
Then its on to the bar/counter!!!!
And maybe a nap.

| I know just enough to be dangerous about a whole lotta things.
Take today, for instance.
This afternoon I fixed our air conditioner. No, not a little window unit thingy. The big honkin' monster that sits outside and snarls at us. Our capacitor was shot so hubby had me run into town and pick up another one and I took the old one out and replaced it with the new one. Had to hook up all kinds of wires to all kinds of hooky things. Had to unscrew stuff and screw stuff back in. Of course, I had him on the phone walking me through it. But still .....
So if your capacitor craps out, give me a call! I can unhook your thingy and put a new one in and plug those things back into that metal thing.
Yep, I'm dangerous!
Aaaaaaaand, I've put the first coat of acid stain on our kitchen floor!! I'll upload more later once the second coat is done and I've sealed it. So far its looking great!
Now, I've got to adjust my newly acquired penis (because how else could I do all that "man" stuff?), color my hair (hope I don't get my haircolor confused with the floor stain!), and get ready for my first staff meeting tonight at school. Gotta get my classroom ready for all my little angels next week!
Now, 'scuse me while I scratch muh-self.

| The stain I ordered from the designer should be here this weekend. Actually, we've got to drive to another town to pick it up from her hubby but it will give me a chance to go to Sam's and do some shopping. You know how I hate shopping but I guess I can suffer a little bit. (yeah, right!)
Yesterday was a mammoth errand/shopping day for me and the boys. I got their school supplies, a few more school clothes and shoes, the supplies I need to stain the kitchen floor and ...... Good grief! Is that all I got? We spent 7 hours in town shopping and I barely filled up the back of the car. My productivity level is slacking.
Next weekend I'm going on a Girls Day Out adventure with with Mama, Prissy, Brandi and Holly. We're heading up to Macon for some really good shopping!!! And gossipping (two "p's"?)!!! And eating!!!! And just being together as a group of Ya-Ya's!!
My first staff meeting is Monday evening. I'm so excited to get the school year started. My teaching partner and I need to sit down and brainstorm about the decor of our room, classroom rules and lesson plans. She's a real sweetie and very bubbly and happy like I am (most of the time) so I know we'll work well together.
Did I mention in my last post that my left leg is now one inch shorter than my right? Can't remember. Anyway, I got a gel arch support/lift for my left foot and it felt so good that I got another one for my right one. It just slips into the bottom of my shoe and its wonderful! I don't limp anymore unless I'm really tired. I haven't walked without a slight limp in so long I had gotten used to it.
My sister has lost 8 pounds (skinny bee-yotch) and I've only lost 5. I've got to lose at least 5 more pounds before our shopping trip in 8 days. So I can't roll around in my Friday night homemade pizza like I always do. Looks like Weight Watchers veggie soup for me tonight. <sob> But it'll feel really good to slip on a pair of jeans without dreading that big tug over the boo-tay. You know what I mean. All women have to do the big tug every now and then.
I'm off to groom and drink a gallon of flavored water. Crystal Light white grape is wonderful. But not as wonderful as my homemade pizza. <sob> Send me some strength, Sisterchicks! I'm gonna need it!

| Good news on the flooring front! I found an interior designer who has my stain in stock and she'll sell it to me without the shipping charge!! WooooHoooo! The only catch is that she's in a town about 2 hours away. But her hubby travels to a town close to my hubby's office every two weeks so he can deliver it to Tim.
I also finalized the design for my bar/counter, window seat and cabinets. Now I've just got to get the floor finished so I can tackle each section one at a time.
I've also decided to tackle the spare bedroom - again. We turned it into my MIL's bedroom months ago but she's only come out about 4 times. She really doesn't like sleeping away from her bed so I'm going to reclaim it as my sewing room/guest bedroom. And I'm really leaning towards painting the walls a bright apple green with crisp white trim. I've already got a coordinating comforter for the daybed and white sheer curtains for the window. I have a friend whose home office is painted that color and every time I go in there I break out in the hugest smile!
I've been asked to tackle some sewing projects for a few people and I really do need a spot to leave my sewing machine set up. And a spot that inspires me to be creative! Speaking of inspiration, check out this cool website I found: http://www.liliputians-nyc.com They've got the cutest clothes for little girls and boys. I'm going to make my own versions of those designs for my nieces, Anna and Basil. And I think the birthday tees for boys are adorable.
Time for laundry and my daily cleaning routine! (ugh) Janie
